Gr8 news for Indian Fans...

Chhetri to Play for Wizards vs Man Utd…

Sunday’s match available live in India via MUTV Online

Kansas City Wizards attacker Sunil Chhetri is expected to see playing time this Sunday, as his Major League Soccer team takes on Manchester United on Sunday, July 25 at 5 p.m. CT (Monday, July 26 at 3:30 a.m. IST) at the New Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO. Tickets for the match are available here.

“We're looking forward to Sunil getting the opportunity to play," Kansas City Wizards Manager Peter Vermes said. "He's been working very hard, and this game will give him a chance to measure himself against some of the best players in the world.”

Kansas City signed Chhetri from Dempo SC prior to the start of the 2010 MLS season, making him the first Indian to join an MLS team. Chhetri scored in his debut as a substitute in an exhibition against the University of Tulsa and followed that performance with a hat trick against the University of Evansville in another reserves game in April. He made his first-team debut in a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup play-in match on April 13th when he was named to the starting lineup in a 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids.

“I'm very excited,” Chhetri said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play against the best team in the world.”

The 25-year-old was one of 30 players recently selected for the Indian National Team’s ongoing preparations for the 2011 Asian Cup, but India head coach Bob Houghton indicated Chhetri would join the team towards the end of the year following the conclusion of the MLS season. Chhetri was a pivotal player in the country’s qualification process, scoring a hat trick in the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup final to secure India’s spot in the Asian Cup for the first time in 24 years. Chhetri has appeared 35 times for India, scoring 16 goals.

Sunday’s marquee match between the Kansas City Wizards and Manchester United will be broadcast live in the United States on Fox Soccer Channel, beginning with a live pre-game show at 4:30 p.m. CT (3:00 a.m. IST).  It will also be streamed live on MUTV Online, Manchester United’s subscription video service available at mu.tv.manutd.com for £4.5/month (approximately 325 INR).

Fans who cannot watch the game are encouraged to visit www.KCWizards.com for video highlights, recaps and much more following Sunday’s soccer showcase.

About Indian star- Sunil Chhetri pursuing his dream at MLS

Story of Indian Forward:
Just like that, the Kansas City Wizards became one of the best-supported soccer clubs not only in MLS but the world over.
With a single transaction -- the formal signing of India's star soccer player, Sunil Chhetri, in March -- the Wizards gained the firmest of footholds in the second-most populous country on the globe. The club's Facebook page is now red-hot and media requests have poured in at all hours of the night.
Sunil Chhetri
Sunil Chhetri, 25, continues to adjust to the culture of America and MLS since arriving from India.
But the signing of Chhetri, lest you be fooled, was anything but a marketing ploy. A team lacking in attacking fortitude, highlighted by Kei Kamara's circus miss against the Los Angeles Galaxy two weeks ago -- which made the foreign press -- has designs on Chhetri's prolific ways.
Unlike many of his countrymen, Chhetri has a pedigree in the sport. His mother played for the Nepal national team with her twin sister before she was married at 18 and had to quit. His father, also Nepalese, played in the Indian army.
Chhetri said his heritage is an advantage since "[Nepalis] are supposed to be more hard-working."
While he played soccer at school and in the streets of Delhi as a child, Chhetri had no grand designs on a career. "I never thought I would make it big," he said. "Football was going to help me get into a good college. That's why I played when I started. Then it sort of got out of hand. But I'm not complaining."
He was signed by a top Indian club at 16 and a few years later became a regular on the national team, amassing 16 goals in 35 games thus far. Having established himself as a dominant Indian league player, scoring a goal roughly every two games as a deep-lying central forward, rumors started to swirl about a move abroad, something accomplished by only two other Indians (making Chhetri the third, and the first to sign with an MLS club).
First, in 2008, there was talk of English club Leeds United. According to Chhetri, D.C. United also showed interest around that time. Trials with Coventry City and Queen's Park Rangers followed. But Coventry gave him just three days to prove himself, and QPR couldn't get him a work permit. Then Kansas City came knocking.
"He's got a lot of good qualities," Wizards coach Peter Vermes said. "He's good on the ball, he has a nose for the goal and is very good with both feet; and given his size, he's great in the air as well."
"I was pleasantly surprised with how good he was, to be honest," Wizards defender Jimmy Conrad said. "Obviously, when I think about Indian soccer, they're not really on the world stage. They don't qualify for the World Cup or anything." Not entirely true. India qualified in 1950 -- all the other teams in its qualifying group had withdrawn -- but wasn't allowed to play on bare feet, and so the team opted not to go.
"When [Chhetri] first joined us, you could see there was something special about his game and we really thought he could play when he came," Conrad said. "He was wearing yellow Nike shoes, so he stood out a little. He can change speeds and he's quick, and he knows when to play the ball and when to shoot."
In two preseason friendlies, Chhetri scored four goals. He was signed soon thereafter. Yet while he made his formal debut in the U.S. Open Cup against the Colorado Rapids, Chhetri has yet to make his MLS debut.
Why is that?
"It's fitness more than anything else," Vermes said. "A difficult thing for most guys coming to our league from overseas. He wasn't ready for the speed and pace of our game."
"I had a talk with my coach," Chhetri said. "To be very honest, it's not about your talent and your speed. It's about understanding what MLS is like and the way my team plays. Initially, I was disappointed because I was new, and in India I was always playing. I thought I would arrive and start playing, but then I realized that I had to be patient."
With such a difference in on-field approach, it was almost as if Chhetri had to learn a new sport. While soccer is the second-biggest sport in India, it trails cricket by a gigantic margin. And soccer was really only professionalized properly in 2007, when the I-League kicked off. Prior to that, top-level Indian soccer at its best consisted of a disjointed series of leagues played on a state-by-state basis.
The I-League, growing rapidly, not unlike MLS, has expanded from 10 to 14 teams, but play is more static and much less physical than it is in the U.S. -- hence Chhetri's integration lag.
"Everything is different, even the way they call football," Chhetri said.
"He gets the game," Vermes said. "He's got a good soccer brain and is making the adaptation to the MLS. We just didn't want to put him out there before he was ready."
The scrutiny of a media horde assigned to keeping tabs on Chhetri -- today's hot story in an Indian media landscape with a notoriously short attention span -- isn't helpful. "I hardly talk with any of them, because it gets into your head when they keep asking where and why?" Chhetri said.
But he does talk to his new teammates, who have taken a liking to the outgoing Indian and have been impressed with his ability.
"He has an unbelievable attitude," Vermes said. "You couldn't ask for a better guy. He comes in and trains hard every day. You could tell when he first came over that he was here for a reason, that he wants a challenge outside of his country."
"He's done a good job," Conrad said. "I know there's been -- like any player coming in -- a transitional period where he has to get adjusted to the team and adjusted from moving. He's coming from India, where he's recognized as one of the top five athletes in the country. Things probably aren't going the way he wanted to start, but he's going to play a role for us in the future and he's going to take his opportunity with both hands."
"He definitely does have qualities to play in this league," Vermes said.
But, to state the blatantly obvious, Kansas City is not Delhi, another factor in the integration progress of Chhetri.
"It's so different, man," he said. "Everything is different. Everything. To take an apartment was difficult. In India, if you want to take an apartment, there are no strict rules. Here, you need a social security number and a credit history. Here, when you drive, the rules, the side of the road you drive on, and the habits are all opposite. I was used to staying with family, with friends. I won't lie: Things were difficult. But they're better now."
"I think things are a little more spread out for him here," Conrad said of sprawling Kansas. "If he'd gone to New York or L.A., there might be some comfort in having a lot of people in small places. There has to be some culture shock for him here." The only thing the areas have in common, really, as Conrad cracks, is that both Kansas and Delhi have cows in the street.
Chances are, they'll soon have something else in common too. They'll both be rooting for Sunil Chhetri. And just maybe, he'll be a star for both.

Guys...Barcelona Agree £8m Deal To Sign Sevilla Full Back Adriano..

Its official news :

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla's mercurial Brazilian full back Adriano

The Blaugrana have confirmed that they will pay a transfer fee of €9.5 million (£8m) for the versatile wing back, with an additional €4 million (£3.34m) payable in performance-based incentives.

The agreement is pending the player's medical exam and signing of contract, which will take place after the player arrives in Barcelona on Saturday. If all goes well he will be the club's second summer signing, after David Villa's capture from Valencia.

Adriano has played six seasons in La Liga and is an extraordinarily versatile player, able to play as a right or left full-back, but also in more advanced roles as a winger or even an interor midfielder.

With his arrival to Barcelona, Adriano reunites with compatriot Dani Alves with whom he shared a number of successes during their four years together at Sevilla. Together in Andalusia, the two Brazilians won a Copa del Rey title, two UEFA Cups [now Europa League], one Spanish Supercup, and one European Supercup.

Adriano could be set for an earlier reunion with his former team-mates, as Barcelona are set to play Sevilla in the season-opening Spanish Super Cup in August.

Torres injury blow confirmed

Scans have revealed Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has suffered a thigh injury and he will be out of action for up to four weeks.
Torres pulled up in the dying moments of Spain's World Cup final victory over Netherlands and, following a scan at the Cemtro de Madrid Clinic on Tuesday, the Spanish football federation has now confirmed there is evidence of "a grade one muscle fibre rupture in the left thigh".
'Grade one' indicates the injury is the least severe rupture, and Torres is expected to be back in action within a month.
"As Liverpool manager, I take great pride in the fact that two of our players can call themselves World Cup winners this summer," he said.
"Unfortunately, one team had to lose that final and, while my commiserations go out to the Dutch lads, I have to say congratulations to Fernando and Pepe (Reina). Winning the World Cup is the ultimate honour any player can have in international football and you could see what it meant to both players as soon as the celebrations started.
"I think it's safe to say the pictures of Fernando in the dressing room with the World Cup certainly went down well with our fans but the club can be proud of all the players who went away to the World Cup.
"To have four players reach the final is an incredible achievement and I look forward to working with them when they return to Melwood after their holidays."

Javier Zanetti Wants Liverpool Midfielder & Argentina Team-Mate Javier Mascherano To Join Him At Inter

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti hopes that international team-mate Javier Mascherano will leave Liverpool and join him at the San Siro next season.

Champions League winners Inter are looking to build on their success last season and former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is thought to be keen to manage Mascherano again.

Zanetti is also a fan of the midfielder and believes that he would fit in perfectly at Inter.

"Mascherano? He's a great player, who retrieves a lot of balls. He would suit to Inter," Zanetti told
Sky Italia.

Inter’s sporting director, Marco Branca, also refused to rule out a move for the Liverpool player, and reiterated that Benitez will decide on any potential transfer targets.

"I can say that he is a great player," Branca said.

"There are good players that we can take and others that cannot be taken. It depends from the requests of the clubs.

"Mascherano and Cambiasso together? From a technical standpoint, the coach must give the answer.

"What does Benitez think about it? I didn't ask him."

only for u.... The first pictures of Ronaldo's baby son

The baby, believed to be Cristiano Ronaldo's new son, is carried from the Algarve to their family home in Lisbon today.

The baby - thought be named after the star striker -  was pictured with the footballer’s mother Dolores Aveiro, her boyfriend Jose Andrade and a nanny at a service station between the Algarve and Lisbon.

Also in another picture...
The boyfriend of Ronaldo's mother and a nanny carry the baby on his way from the Algarve.

Ronaldo was nowhere to be seen, having arrived in the Algarve yesterday afternoon hours after the baby was seen on his way from there to Lisbon.
A soft toy partially hid the boy’s face in his carry-cot, but the fair hair on show suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo Jr may grow up with the looks of his mystery mother rather than his olive-skinned father.

The 25-year-old Real Madrid player, who earns £200,000 a week, drove to the Algarve from Lisbon in his red Ferrari not long after the baby had made the reverse journey with his grandmother.
Dolores and her boyfriend had been looking after him at a rented home in the Algarve resort of Vilamoura.
Ronaldo made the surprise announcement on July 3 that he had become father to a son.
He said the mother wanted to remain anonymous and revealed that he would raise the child on his own with help from his family.

Surprise... Surprise... Surprise

Youthful Germany hold heads high and look to future

Germany's national football team revived fond memories of the 2006 World Cup with another stirring performance at the 2010 edition of the tournament in South Africa on Saturday.
The team's refreshing brand of offensive soccer inspired fans of the sport worldwide and made many rethink the way they perceive not only German football, but also Germany itself.
Germany repeated its placing from 2006, the tournament it hosted, by prevailing 3-2 over a determined Uruguay team in Saturday's match for third place.
"We're not going back home to Germany empty-handed, but with a third place finish, which the team has earned," said national team head coach Joachim Loew, the architect of Germany's 2010 showing.
During the 2006 World Cup, Germany showed itself as a friendly and cosmopolitan country, and the event was widely regarded as an overwhelming success from both the organizational and entertainment points of view. This year, the national team earned the world's respect with its exciting, high-scoring style of football.
"Abroad, this team is perceived as being very likeable," said newly elected German President Christian Wulff, who flew to South Africa to watch his country play Uruguay. "Some Africans have told me this team is something of a 'rainbow' team, diverse and convincing," he said.
The stirring performance has even led to a recommendation by Wulff that Loew receive the Federal Cross of Merit for service to the nation, and that the team be awarded the Silver Bay Laurel Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany.
"The team is the best ambassador Germany has in the world," Wulff added.
German soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer also praised the national team. "The mood in South Africa was euphoric, and many people have told me that the German team has been the best," he said.
National team manager and former striker Oliver Bierhoff gleaned a similarly positive message from the tournament. "We have managed to create a new picture of Germany, not only in a sporting sense, but also socially," he said.

Uruguay hitman Diego Forlan wins the golden ball

Uruguay hitman Diego Forlan stated that he was proud and delighted to be named the best player of the tournament but admitted that he owed everything to the players around him in the Celeste side.
Forlan walked off with the prestigious Golden Ball awardfollowing Sunday's final. The gong is awarded by journalists to the player judged to have had the best individual performance throughout the tournament.
And with a personal tally of five goals from a withdrawn number 10 position, and his influence in driving an unfancied Uruguay side to their highest finish in 40 years, there will be few who will begrudge the 31-year-old this personal honour.

Forlan admitted this morning however that he could not have achieved any of his World Cup exploits without the skills of his team-mates.

"It is something incredible. I am overcome with emotion and happiness for this recognition, that I never could have achieved without the help and support of the great team that has been formed in the Uruguay squad," the player told reporters on being presented with the Golden Ball.

And 'Cachavacha', who has been widely linked with a move to England in the wake of the World Cup, also expressed his gratitude to the overwhelming support the Celeste enjoyed, as they captivated the tiny nation of just three million citizens.

"This is a prize for every single Uruguayan to enjoy. They deserve it," he concluded.

Spain clinch the glory....

Its a beautiful game....

The final whistle of the tournament sounds, and Spain, in its first World Cup final, claims its first World Cup title. Thanks to late goal by Andres Iniesta.

For Spain, the road to the World Cup title in South Africa wasn't paved with gold, as many expected. Spain lost its first game, against Switzerland, 1-0, and marched through the knockout round with four straight 1-0 victories. In all of those games, Spain waited until the second half to break the deadlock. Today, Iniesta scored in the 116th minute, the latest a winner has been scored in the history of the tournament.

The Netherlands were booked nine times, including a red card for Heitinga seven minutes before Iniesta's goal. The Netherlands tried to stunt the Spanish attack by fouling, again and again and again, and almost succeeded in snatching a win on multiple occasions. But bad luck and some nervous finishing helped hand the Dutch their first loss since Fall 2008. In three World Cup finals, the Netherlands has lost three times -- and has now lost twice in extra time.
Spain bungled its share of chances also. But it finally put the ball in the net with penalty kicks looming around the corner. The goal began with Torres on the left wing. The striker lobbed the ball towards Iniesta in the box, but it was under-hit and Van der Vaart headed it away. However, the ball fell right to Fabregas at the top of the box. The midfielder, who was active after coming on as a sub in the 87th minute, passed to Iniesta. Van der Vaart couldn't get back to the midfielder in time, and Iniesta volleyed past Stekelenberg, who had been brilliant today but only managed to get his hand on the ball as it sailed past him and into the Spanish soccer history books.
